I’m thrilled to share the work of an incredibly talented poet whose words look into the complexities of love, vulnerability, and the dark places within us. This week, we’re featuring LAZARUS and their evocative poem, "Scared Sinners Skin."
Scared Sinners Skin
Meeting routinely at our playful Den
Why so guarded within
Haven’t I already saw
How vulnerable you are
When the Layers come off
Empty at the Heart
Love the lights off or extremely dimmed
Hallways need to be lit
So she sees the footprints
Of where they been
Of where there heading
She has magic in her eyes
Not the kind to be kind
More to store
What she fears
What might be near
Clever lies lay upon ears at night
Pillow talking till the sun rise
No more secrets
Gazes off at shadows
To the body count
Each one making her more numb
But still
She leaves the door cracked
If anyone decides to come back
A long yearned return
Face glimmers body burns
Don’t dive too deep
Those sheets will swallow you under
From winter till summer
Tummy aches for something tender
Tethering away underneath
Floors tend to creek
Bed tends to squeak
Lovers in a lustful agreement
Playing hide and seek
Until the strong becomes weak
Days become weeks
Then months
Can she pull a year from you
Distract from all of importance
Than drop you off like a orphan
On the corner
Someone else’s trouble now
Whatever you found
Let it go now
Close the door
Never let light admit in
Darkness awaits on the other end
Only if you can see through her jaded lens
You will then see
What is in host of the body
She’s a beautiful nightmare
A story told after the late hours
A feminine creature
Who craves to sink her teeth deeper
Let’s you see
Beauty only last during that honey moon stage
Than it’s back to the cage
She locks herself away
She’s hungry again
In prowl for powerful men
To tear away at the good
Create sins as they Intertwine
In a helix form
Only leaving trails of sins
Every night they Shed Skin
